- The joy of the teenage years… Do you have a teenager with whom you feel that you are constantly "doing battle"? You wish that you could help but you feel that you are being misunderstood, simply by asking the questions? As an ex youth group leader and Youth Pastor perhaps I can help. I can:
- Listen! I can be totally impartial as I am removed from the situation
- Simply be there as a sounding board. A non-threatening adult that they can talk to about anything, without judgement
- "Take confession" of things that they want to let out but are not comfortable with talking to Mum or Dad about
- Help to refer them to experts where necessary without their having to look "weak" before Mum and Dad
Please be aware that whilst as a parent you may be paying for the sessions, you will have no access to the information shared during them. The only way this works is for the teen to know that they can talk openly and confidentially.
Obviously my outcome in these sessions is to see the teen speaking openly to their parents so that the support and love required by both parties, flows freely again, however this cannot be guaranteed or forced.
